Reality check..

Just got back from Canberra, and now sitting in a computer lab while water samples I'm analaysing for phosphate contamination are mixing with reagent in the lab next door. Lots of photos tonight or tomorrow. My neck is all crooked but other than that I'm remarkably fresh and together considering the epic weekend I've just had. More details when I put up the photos.

Hi ya folks

You stay away from the machine for a while and you forget how addictive it is. Now the photonic tentacles have reached out from the LEDs and drawn me back in. I'm loving life! Uni is fun, everyone else is falling asleep in Chem as much as me, Biology is using stats to passify our surging neurons and Geol is fun as always. I find it interesting that the enjoyment of my studies is based more on the faculty than the content, Geology dept is full of laidback outdoorsy folks who can make the formation of quartzite crystals exciting while Chem department can make the science behind "the Day After Tomorrow" dull as "Driving Miss Daisy".

One week till CORC's solo only race. Rumours of barely any entrants, and promise of Viscious Power sponsorship deal if I can give Saul B a run for his money.

I've put heaps of photos up recently and the deluge will continue. the increased computer access due to returning to uni has got me all excited about virtual comunication.

Also excited about getting heaps of air on the torrens jump track, it's fun being a grown-up playing kids games on a moutain-bike. Particularily fun as when I was a big kid I spent most of my time clocking up road k's on my dad's old peugot ten-speed.

PS: the Howard government stinks!

Bert and Will's Geelong to Adelaide Treck

Here's the photos of me and Will dragging ourselves the 1000kms from Geelong to Adelaide. These are about 2 months old, but I've had trouble posting pictures. The journey took 9 days and we rode 1016 kms, drank a lot of beer, wine, vodka and coffee. We slept in bivvy bags except after we got drenched thru and decided to hang out with the backpackers. We followed the Great Ocean Road thru Victoria (small detours thru Otway ranges to climb Mt Garvey and play in some waterfalls) and then foolowed the Limestone coast back to Adelaide.

Breakfast on route to Geelong. The way Melbourne is set up is you either play with traffic on the freeway, ride the long way around the bay and get a ferry to near Torquay, or you catch the train to Geelong. We used the chance to have a late breakfast.

The Rain Sets In

This is the second part of Bert and Will's Expedition. From Apollo Bay to Portland we had bucket after bucket of sky juice dumped on us. As well as making the journey less fun, it also had the effect of encouraging me to keep the camera in a bag in a bag in a bag, reducing the number of photos and making sure any that were taken were one in crap light.

This photo is deceptive. The rod is actually uphill. We had a great plan to cut around Laver's Hill by using the Red Johanna track and then following another track along the coast. Only thing was at the bottom of Red Johanna we turned up Blue Johanna track and climbed back to near the top of Laver's Hill.

Will and Sylvie bout to get in trouble for using too many pages of the visitor book in BackerpackersFromHell. The place was clean, but they treated everyone like school kids, and you had to smuggle alchohol in if you wanted to drink anything nice.

The Last Leg

These are fotos from the final leg of Bert and Will's Geelong to Adelaide ride. Most of these are from the Coorong. We met Robert just out of Nelson and sat and drank wine and ate food with him before heading in our seperate directions. It was odd, he was finishing his journey, began 9 months previously, while we were finishing ours, less than 7 days old at this point. I should have taken some fotos at Camp Coorong and some other stops but I never think to drag the camera out. Maybe next big trip I'll get a helmet cam.

KONA 24HR FOTOS

Yay! Hello is working for me again. So here's some 6 month old photos. More recent ones to come.

Full Gas Promotions had a brilliant idea, give all the solo idiots at the Kona 24hr their own special rear race plate so people in fast teams could scream something other than "track!" This is now one of my more prized possessions.
